Greetings Pilgrims,

My name is Kermit – no relation to the Frog, thank you very much, even though I write about stuffed animals.

Growing up on authors like Octavia Butler, Madeleine L’Engle, and Neil Gaiman, I hope The Bright and the Gloom™ will bring as much joy and spark as much conversation as they have.

The Bright and the Gloom will be a middle-grade novel with a little something to offer to readers of all ages. It is a story intended as a throwback to the grimmer and more visceral tales, liberal in their use of darker themes.

I hope that the book will inspire discussion in grade-school book clubs and literature courses at every level, and that it will bridge the gap between literature and popular fiction.
