Just then there was a splash, a hoofstep on the surface of the marsh as the kelpie turned in their direction. A snort of suspicion sent blue ripples through its liquid body. The princess and her two pixie companions went completely silent and didn't dare move an inch. They all squatted behind a row of long grass, ankle-deep in the shallows, staring at the water spirit with amazement. Although it didn't react as if it noticed them, its gaze was locked on their location. The inner-rippling of its body became more intense, and its mane crested and broke in short waves. The scent of magic was thick in the air, causing Pick and Boo to shift with discomfort...
