Poguri – a strange-looking nouminal – perhaps a mouse or a bunny or something in-between. He lives alone in a cottage in the industrial district of Daywatch, but is often seen throughout town performing various custodial duties, deliveries, and other random errands. In his spare time he collects scraps and parts abandoned or left over from various children's creations. But when he comes across a certain artifact, he recalls an important memory - one that that may lead him from a humble life of service - into the very heart of darkness.

Maddie – A tomboy from the modern day United States, Maddie first discovers Nou through a strange and powerful recurring dream. She becomes the charismatic, brave, and somewhat bossy, self-appointed leader of the other children in their quest to rid the land of the Blight. She is easily recognizable by her curly hair and large puffy ponytails.

Pandora – Maddie's pygmy elephant Nouminal; In contrast to her companion's adventurous personality, Pandora is reserved, serious, and a bit paranoid. Still she offers a wealth of knowledge about the world and its inhabitants, helping Maddie to make wiser decisions.

Pacha – An Incan boy from 16th century Peru who has a love for chemistry experiments and good food; he often combines the two to come up with new flavors. He discovers that almatter is edible and can be manipulated to exhibit the taste of any food imaginable.

Sprite & Hannibal – Pacha's twin ape Nouminals; Sprite – the spirited and playful chimp, prone to speaking rapidly and often non-stop. Hannibal the sleepy gorilla, who – much like his Pacha himself – would rather spend his time resting or relaxing at any of Nou's numerous sites. Still he does have a spark of adventure in him, and will occasionally rise to match Sprite's enthusiasm.

Brianna – nicknamed "Bri", she is the daughter of a traveling bard in 18th century Ireland. In Nou, her overpowered imagination makes her quite gifted in the molding of almatter. Although she fancies "girlish" things like tiaras and dresses, she is just as inclined to play in the mud while wearing them.

Setanta – A playful and kind-spirited fox Nouminal who is never more than five steps away from his companion, Bri. Try as he might to keep his composure, he finds hilarity in just about everything, and often bursts into uncontrollable laughter.

Gwendolyn – nicknamed "Goldie", for her long curly blonde hair, she comes to Nou from Victorian England, carrying herself with and air of elegance and refinement. She gets along well with the other dreamers, although not always willing to participate in the more "frivolous" of their activities.

Mimi – Goldie's lamb Nouminal; inheriting her companion's tastes for the finer things in life, she often becomes disenchanted with the frivolity of children and younger Nouminals. Still, despite her occasional moodiness, she is mostly kind and amicable to everyone.

Mei – born to a noble family in 17th century China, Mei is bashful and standoffish, but desperately wants to interact with the other children. She is accommodating and eager to please out of genuine kindness and respect for others.

Ollie – Mei's energetic and highly rambunctious tiger Nouminal; Sometimes his enthusiasm can get the better of him, but due to a serious weakness to cuddling he can be brought under control.
